San Juan Day 1

As you all know, I just got back from my honeymoon (10 months delayed after the wedding... thanks, Uncle Sam.) For those of you that don't know, our wedding date was in limbo until about 6 weeks out because my husband was at Ranger School. If he recycled any phase more than once, we'd have to change the wedding date. But, he (and only 20% of the guys he showed up with on Day 1) made it through the first time, and we were golden!

However, while still at Benning, his orders came down, and he needed to report to his new unit only a few days after our wedding, which meant no honeymoon. As a matter of fact, we were married on Saturday, hung around town on Sunday, and PCS'd on Monday.

Neither of our parents honeymooned, so we wanted to make sure we squeezed one in. (Especially before we bring a baby Springer into the world!) San Juan was the perfect location for us - lots of rest and relaxation on the beach for me, lots of historical and interesting things for him. We caught the earliest flight down to maximize our first day, and it didn't disappoint!
That was the view from our hotel, the El San Juan Resort and Casino. I'm a Diamond Hilton Honors Member, so we got 2 of our nights for free, and the stay was great. The staff couldn't have been more friendly or accommodating, and their section of the beach was MUCH cleaner and well kept than the other resorts in our area. (That we saw on our walks anyways.)
We grabbed dinner that night at a place nearby called La Playita. This was our view:
We were directly over the water. It was amazing. The service was so-so (we heard folks around here were on island time...) but the food more than made up for it. And I mean, like I'm going to complain about sitting here for longer than an hour?
I had a margarita and the crab cakes (yum!) while Logan got the local beer - Medalla - and a Puerto Rican favorite, mofongo. It's mashed plantains filled with a delicious red sauce with peppers, garlic, and tomatoes and grilled chicken. It was enough to make us crave mofongo for the rest of our trip.

Stay tuned for more on our trip! Have you ever been to PR before?
